Every devotee has to be what I call ‘spiritually self-sufficient.’ Spiritual self-sufficiency means that one must at least be able- independent from association- to apply the process of Lord Caitanya and derive from there a certain amount of inspiration and keep on going. That is what I call spiritual self-sufficiency and that is required. Then beyond that one may take inspiration from other great personalities and we are also dependent on that, and obviously our spiritual master and other great vaisnavas we take inspiration from. And we need those moments of inspiration. But spiritual self-sufficiency- we must!(HH KKS, 2005)
