In the Bhagavatam it is mentioned that everybody likes to hear his own glories, so...Krishna also! That tendency comes from Krishna, so Krishna also likes it and His glories are being sung for many years now! Krishna is also pleased to see that this devotee is now giving himself in surrender. So to Chant for Krishna’s pleasure means when we are not asking, when we don’t want anything else from the chanting, we have no other benefit we want from this, so we chant for Krishna’s pleasure.
Of course many of us chant for other reasons:Chant because we want to be liberated.
We chant because we heard no more birth and death..that’s not bad!

There are many different motives for which we chant.
Some people chant because they hope that then their material life will improve and bad karma will be reduced. Some of us chant out of fear.... if I don’t chant I will go to hell, right, some chant out of fear.
One should chant just so that it is pleasing to Krishna.
