‘Disappearance day of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur’

At the age of a young man, he rose to prominence in his learning of astrology and he became a recognised leader in the astrological field. He translated the surya siddhanta, commented on it and he became such and authority on astrology that a university in Calcutta offered him an honorary teaching post. But soon he was to renounce all these things and he was more interested in spiritual life which is what he was really being trained for. His father, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur, was particularly interested in publishing spiritual literature and magazines, and he trained Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur in working with literature, publications, proof-reading, editing and working with printing presses. If Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur was present today, he would have undoubtedly been a BBT man!

Besides this, he was establishing the Gaudiya Math, a society founded by him which was a very active preaching mission. In my talk today, I will focus on Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur as a preacher because that is the area he inspired our own movement! Srila Prabhupada took that spirit of preaching from his spiritual master and then instilled it within his own disciples and followers in ISKCON…
