Krishna gives devotees intelligence and therefore we need to take shelter of those devotees that have taken shelter of Krishna. Then we also we become more and more ourselves become devotees of Krishna. So, after those twenty four years in the grhastha ashram, Nimai Pandit took sanyassa. His wife was only 16 years old. She was daily chanting, she was chanting her rounds and after she finished one round, she would take a grain of rice and put it in a bowl and as she would chant another round, that's finished another grain on rice and as many rounds as she chanted that's how many grains of rice she would eat for that day! She was probably, you would say she was on the skinny side right?! (crowd laughter!) By the mercy of the Lord she wasn't! Krishna also maintains His devotees.
Because devotees are not just maintaining on rice they also maintain on prema and their love for Krishna, and Krishna simply by His mercy also maintains,...through somehow or other she was maintained. She was so transcendental. Her spiritual life was not like, and now I'm only going to eat a few grains of rice today (crowd laughter!) because I'm very austere devotee, we are fasting and we are taking great pleasure in fasting, only dried rice in very small quantities, no thank you, no dal with my rice. Is it, is it dry enough? Take this rice back it's too wet, not exactly like that rather, these, these kind of devotees are so absorbed in love of God. These bodily things are .... they are not in the forefront of their mind.
Superior Intelligence
So Srila Prabhupada has extraordinary intelligence, that he could see what no one could see. We could on for 100 years.... the mortality rate is higher in India than in Europe ..we could never have questioned to think, but then Prabhupada said "100%" yes immediately realised, it's true. It's totally true. And nobody could see it. Nobody could see it, but it is as clear as glass, crystal clear, everybody "it's 100%,definitely."
The Vaishnava Is The Servant Of Krishna
Lord Chaitanya Served The Vaishnavas
We are following a process which is very very powerful and we just ourselves don't even believe it how powerful it is. We are chanting, thinking it is so difficult, can I really do it? Can I follow these regulative principles or not? It is a struggle. Can I really dedicate myself to chant these 16 rounds which are prescribed everyday without fail for the rest of my life? I don't know. Therefore we think that it is maybe a difficult process and we also ... as is stated in Bhagavad Gita (Sanskrit) that as we surrender unto the Lord we will be rewarded accordingly. So we think well... as I am giving myself to Krishna I will get the mercy. But, even a little bit of service for Krishna one is showered with mercy! So what to speak of regularly doing service for Krishna....we cannot imagine, we cannot imagine what is going on. .....You may not understand but on the platform of the soul it will act and you will get purified!
His (Lord Chaitanya) father expired and then traditionally the place in India where one would perform the sradha ceremony or the ceremony to invoke benediction for forefathers was performed in Gaya. In such a sradha ceremony one could actually deliver the forefathers from their sinful reactions. After death we are getting the reactions for our sinful activities and are being placed in various conditions. It is not that it is all over, rather then we are getting the reactions and are suffering for our sinful activities. So a son, a son was able to deliver, to deliver his father by performing a certain ritual to shorten distinctly the suffering conditions, the hellish conditions, and so that his father now in a new body could again attain a human form of life.
All this is of course now forgotten. But Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu performed this activity. It is not that this means that devotees should also..... So it's not that devotees have to perform the sradha ceremony. The people from India are often times very attached to performing the sradha ceremony, It is very difficult for them to give it up because it is such a tradition. But the scriptures say (Sanskrit) That when we are serving Krishna then there is no need for performing such ceremonies as the sradha ceremony because they are karma-kanda. Karma-kanda are all the ceremonies which are in the Vedas that give some temporary benefit. Some temporary benefit for material existence. But, if we perform devotional service automatically, automatically everyone is, all our family members are also being benefited. It is saying that 7 generations before and 7 generations are being benefited........ And if we go back to Godhead, they will also go, they go!
So I'm sure there are some relatives here of temple devotees so the best thing is, is you have to see your son and your daughter is like an athlete in the Olympics running for the gold medal of going back to Godhead!
It is said that the first 24 years of the life of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are consisting of His childhood pastimes and also His pastimes in the Grhastha Ashram. So it is said this period lasted up til His 24th year of age. At that time He became Nimai Pandit and as Nimai Pandit He was extraordinarily learned, there was no one who was like Nimai. But Nimai's learning was not in the science of Bhakti, but rather Nimai was expert in Vedic grammar and study of logic in the Vedic literature. So in this way Nimai was known as a great scholar.

It says that if you chant the Holy Name of the Lord only once you will be purified for more sinful activities than you can commit in an entire lifetime...can you imagine?! Can we all say together just once- The whole mantra.
So, that was quick wasn't it? Lilasukha recently whilst doing prashadam distribution on the high street, met a young local girl. This girl was from a Buddhist background. She was invited by Lilasukha to the Czech Farm. Soon after they met on the farm where she was distributed a Bhagavad Gita As It Is as a gift. This innocent young girl was greatly inspired. This resulted in her reading the whole Bhagavad Gita within a few days. She immediately bought japa beads and began engaging in the yuga dharma - Harinam Sankirtan. By the way, it should be emphasised that all this was achieved within week or two, by the mercy of Lilasukha and on the strength of the mercy of Kadamba Kanana Swami. She decided to become a devotee of Lord Krishna merely from the words of Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.
With great jubilitaion it was announced that she is stepping into the front line preaching herself, by going distribuing prashadam at their local rock festival, which is no easy feat for anyone, let alone a brand new lady in our movement.
Whatever service you do the benefit goes into your spiritual bank balance and it is kept there eternally! Even if later you give up devotional service: That stays in your bank balance!
When the Lord comes into this material world He is never an ordinary man (sanskrit) the mudhas or the less intelligent think that the Lord is taking the form of an ordinary human being. Devotees understand that Krishna is always transcendental . Krishna is always Krishna. The reason why He appears is that He is very merciful because He is very kind .... We can read more about the merciful nature of Krishna. It is very important to understand Krishna’s quality of being merciful because that is the quality that will purchase us.
It is described like that, on one occasion Draupadi was being disrobed in the assembly of the Kauravas. Somehow or other some man was trying to pull off her sari and she didn’t know what to do ...so the only option was to pray to Krishna. Krishna provided unlimited saris and although they were pulling off the sari the whole floor, whole room was filled up with sari...an ocean of cloth! So it is said that at that time she threw her hands in the air and she called out “ Hey Govinda!” she took full shelter of Govinda and it is said that Krishna then later mentioned that “Whenever I remember how Draupadi was praying to Me and at that time how she was fully remembering Me ...Then my heart melts. My heart melts in appreciation and just by remembering this My heart melts and my appreciation grows...it becomes bigger and bigger.”
Lord Krishna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead appears in this world and apparently takes birth.
He doesn’t take birth, He just appears like the sun ...He appears from one universe to another...again and again...the Supreme Personality of Godhead is always existing and never ceases to exist for a moment. We with our bodies have a very temporary situation, we are undergoing changing bodies. It appears that when Krishna comes into this world that He is also subjected to the changing of bodies..because it appears that Krishna appears as a small child . Krishna is described at one point He was a small baby, and as a small baby Krishna was speaking very simple talk... like children do! and it is said that Krishna and Balarama when they grew up as young boys, they started to walk a little bit and they grab hold of the tails of the calves and the calves were pulling them through the mud and they were sliding on the back of the calves and everyone was watching! The kids liked it and the people liked it!
It is said that when Krishna grew up a little more He became an expert thief who then spent His time stealing ...right very expertly! It is said that Krishna distributed the milk and yoghurt that He stole to the monkeys. The monkeys in the previous life had done such nice service ...how could he ever repay them . We know that when Krishna in His previous incarnation as Lord Ramacandra helped Him to fight Ravana and regain Sita ..so for this in His next life He repaid the monkeys with butter and yoghurt directly from His hand! Just see how kind the Lord performs the pastimes to be merciful to all the living beings.
It’s not so cheap - Krishna wants voluntary surrender. If He wants He can zap us!
(Devotee discusses difference in what has heard about the different ages)
Previously in Vedic times people would keep a cow and they would milk the cow in the mornings, quite nice..early morning milk your own cow...fresh milk; that is the way to live actually. If you think about it, it's a lot better then walk to a fridge and you know warm it up in the microwave and what not... "PING!" breakfast! That is modern times. "Oh can i cook something for you?" "Well ok yeah sure" and they go into the kitchen (Maharaja makes noise of loud microwave) "Cooking finished!" Modern times! What world are we living in? We're living in a world where we have forgotten who is the proprietor, where we have forgotten the purpose of the world, we have forgotten that everything is actually meant for Krishna. And the result is, the result is that in the name of progrss we have less and less.
Nowadays who touches wool...now fleece right? Fleece, you can't wear wool, it's fleece right..improved quality? What is it? It is just plastic actually! Plastic clothes, Plastic food, Plastic surgery, Plastic nose!!
Prabhupada said the idle mind is the devil's workshop. We will be dwelling on sex and money. So the idle mind is the devil's workshop ...so one will dwell on sex and money, Prabhupada said. Therefore one must take up devotional service. One must seriously engage in devotional service. This devotional service must be very absorbing, there must be a lot to do so that we just don't have time ...or otherwise (sanskrit) ...enjoy and renounce..enjoy and renounce...enjoy and renounce....
..so this is the biggest problem ...on the one hand we think I really want Krishna, I really do, I really want spiritual life but on the other hand we can’t: on the other hand there is another part in us that wants something else. Sometimes when we are in the spiritual mode we don't want that part of our self, we say “I wish I didn't have that” but then we snap out of the spiritual mode and we again don't want spiritual life, so much. Somehow we are accepting and then we are giving up and we are accepting, giving up and sometimes take to spiritual life and sometimes take to material life.
So we are caught in these changing states of consciousness. When we embrace spiritual life, as they say in English “the grass is greener on the other side” so when we are enjoying the material energy we want to give it up and we want to take to spiritual life and when we are practicing spiritual life then we start to think about the material energy. So we are going up and down in these two states. So this is a very intense state in spiritual life. That is the state where one has to hold on very close...very close to devotees. One should always be with devotees. Not for a moment go away from the devotees. “never go out alone,” as they used to say to us in the early days when we joined that “you can not go out alone” it was not allowed, it was against the codes of the temple ...nowadays noone really cares about that but in the old days, “oh no you can not be alone for a moment ..always associate with the devotee”Miracles do happen. The real miracle is the mercy of Krishna. That is the real miracle and that miracle of the mercy of Krishna is what is so powerful that it will transform us. It will transform us. It will transform us. And that miracle is taking place. The mercy of Krishna is everywhere. The whole universe is filled with the mercy of Krishna, he unlimitedly distributed His mercy everywhere, and still- there is special mercy to get. Not only the general mercy, that is available equally to all. Krishna has left nice Deity forms all over the universe, Krishna has left the sastra all over the universe- it has been translated- these books can be read by all of us, and by somany outside this space. So the mercy is available equally to all of us. There is no doubt. But, than there is the other mercy, that individual mercy.
That special individual mercy arrangement that Krishna will make for you, if you are able to attract it by your eagerness to serve Him, by your enthusiasm in service. So we must show this enthusiasm, this seriousness somehow or other-we must do it. We must otherwise we are wasting this lifetime. And it won’t get better! Already … maybe in the past babies were being fed on breast milk, but as things are going on less and less, and it becomes artificial stuff with meat products inside. And in the future we will grow up taking meat from the very moment of birth.
So it will only be more difficult to overcome conditioning, because the conditioning will become worse. What if cannibalism takes off in the future in Kali-yuga and you become the son of the cannibal? And you have grown up nicely eating your neighbors and other people in the neighborhood or from other parts of town, raiding the place… living off cannibalism. Well, then it is hard when you join the devotees- then you have to control that too! Every time you see a tasty devotee walking in… and it is obvious that devotees may become tasty because they are taking all this nice prasadam, so some of them become nice, fatty and effulgent from all this prasadam, so it looks really much tastier than some ordinary karmi. Right?

Then again, your sense control will only become more difficult. Then you cannot even look at the devotee and get hungry. So you will have to overcome that desire as well.
So it won’t be easier in the next birth. It will never be easier then this birth. This is the best birth you have! So let us take advantage now and do something to attract the mercy of Krishna.
And if we do something to attract the mercy of Krishna, then a miracle will also take place for us… so do not just sit around on the nice soft cushion in a nice templeroom in a nice temple enjoying your spiritual life.

We must do something to attract the mercy of Krishna! And if we do that miracle will happen. .. it is not possible by your own endeavors’, but by attracting the mercy it is possible. So we sould make endeavor to attract the mercy.
So we cannot just make it easy in this movement, and take it easy in this movement. We got to do what is difficult. We got to make the sacrifice. We got to do for Krishna what is difficult. And if we do that- then Krishna is seeing- oh, look, he is trying. And then He gives a little mercy and then- Hej- you feel it! It starts happening, after all these years when I felt so stale in my spiritual life, now I begin to feel something is happening. I get a little mercy. Then you go more, you try more and more, and more.
