grab the most valuable thing

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta ,He was doing a program quite close to the Ganga – and there was an earthquake on that particular day. This earthquake suddenly created a flash flood.
From one moment to the next, the whole area become flooded by the water of the Ganga. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta become inspired with that and starts to speak of Maha Pralaya- the great destruction of the Universe by the big flood.
He said “When the Maha Pralaya comes then you can quickly grab the most valuable thing that you can grab and then try run for your life.”
He then said: “You can take Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrta.” …”But, if it get’s too much to carry then you can let Bhagavad-Gita go - and you keep on running with the Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrta.
But if that also becomes too much to carry then you let Bhagavatam go and keep Caitanya Caritamrta, because from that everything can be restored.”
So, this is the principle of reading one book. We are living in a modern age, it is called the information age, and everything is in our finger tips. We live in this age and to some extent we may take some advantage of it.
But our program is one book. Go deep in one book. Austerity in this age is that one must limit himself, because the world offer us unlimited varieties.
If we can just limit ourselves and just take shelter of Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita and Caitanya Caritamrta then everything will come automatically.
